Student Staff

The UC Merced Fiat Lux Scholars Program provides students with opportunities to gain valuable professional development and work experiences while attending the university. We hire Student Coordinators, Academic Scholars, and Lead Scholars. Student staff members are able to learn leadership skills, collaborate with others, and work as a team.

 

 

Student Coordinators: 

Develop and implement our Faculty Receptions, Student Staff Trainings, and the First-Year Fiat Lux Scholars Program Orientation, under direct supervision and guidance from the professional staff.  

Provide general guidance and support to student staff and serve as a liaison between Professional Staff and other Student Staff.

Clarify general information for Fiat Lux scholars regarding program requirement inquires, such as through utilizing the Fiat Lux e-mail account.

Update the Fiat Lux website and Catcourses page with timely and accurate information about the program.

Assist Professional Staff in monitoring program participation data points.

Build an on-campus community that recognizes the identities, values, and beliefs of all students.

 

Academic Scholars:

Serve as peer mentors to First-Year Fiat Lux scholars, such as through holding weekly office hours/one-on-one meetings.

Connect First-Year Fiat Lux scholars to relevant resources on and off-campus.

Plan and facilitate monthly large-scale socials for Fiat Lux participants to foster connections, community, and relationships. 

Build an on-campus community that recognizes the identities, values, and beliefs of all students.

Promote opportunities for active participation and engagement to enhance student development and involvement through formal and informal experiences. 

 

Lead Scholars:

Serve as peer mentors to Second-Year Fiat Lux scholars, such as through holding weekly office hours/one-on-one meetings.

Connect Second-Year Fiat Lux scholars to relevant resources on and off-campus.

Plan and facilitate workshops on topics that meet the specific needs of First-Generation college students.

Collaborate with other campus departments to develop quality programming that promotes resiliency, life skills, and interpersonal development.

Build an on-campus community that recognizes the identities, values, and beliefs of all students.

Promote opportunities for active participation and engagement to enhance student development and involvement through formal and informal experiences.
