Faculty Receptions
Due to COVID-19 and in regulation with campus guidelines, Faculty Receptions will be hosted virtually for the Fall 2020 semester.
Our Mission: We empower a select cohort of income-eligible, first-generation college students through intentionally structured services that ease their college transition, build a community of scholars, and enhance their student development.
Our Vision: Promote resilience, increase retention, and minimize barriers to degree attainment for first-generation college students.
Programming for the Fiat Lux Scholars Program includes monthly faculty receptions where students and faculty come together, connect, and build relationships outside of the classroom. During these faculty receptions, students and faculty share a meal while having conversations at their table. This is intended to humanize professor relationships and break down barriers for first-generation college students in the classroom.
Faculty will then be asked to introduce themselves to all attendees at one point during the reception by our Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs, Charles Nies, and/or our Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students, Jonathan Grady. An agenda will be provided to all faculty as they arrive.
Faculty can expect to:
1. Share about their academic journey and how they reached their current role
2. Provide insight regarding their research and other current projects
3. Share opportunities for collaboration with first-generation college students
Student Learning Outcomes:
1. Build their networking and communication skills
2. Explore courses, majors, and research opportunities
3. Identify activities that they can engage in to support and develop their career interests.
